I want the world to understand how relevant babies and children are. People have a tendency to assume that babies have nothing to offer the world until they grow up. I agree that people can often become more relevant as they grow, but only if they actually learn and apply things that are relevant to those around them. I will defend human babies in much the same way as I do animals.
Human babies and animals have a lot in common. The number one thing is that they do not speak human languages at the beginning. They can easily communicate by sounds and their eyes. Another thing that they have in common is that most things in life are irrelevant to them. When was the last time you ever heard of a newborn who had any interest in religion, politics, or sex? They have no knowledge of these subjects. Only their physical needs are relevant. They can experience paradise if they have someone to take care of them.
Babies are naturally very curious about the world. As they grow up, their knowledge increases as well as their physical ability to change things in the world. I think that if people would simply let children explore things on their own rather than punishing them when they ask questions or do whatever the parent considers “inappropriate” without explaining why. The only time to intervene is when the child is doing something that will cause pain or death to themselves or others.
Never assume that your children are not paying attention to the music you listen to, or the violence that is common on television. They may not even know what the words mean at the time but when something is wrong, they will cry. Pay attention to what happened just before a baby started crying. Also, do not think that any child will understand what you are talking about just by yelling. The volume is irrelevant to a child who does not understand the words that you are saying. You can scare them into behaving the way you want, but that is simply abuse.
