It is too easy to focus so hard on winning a game that you miss the point that it is supposed to be fun. I found that for some odd reason, I have a better chance at winning a game of chess when I no longer care about winning it. Trying new things, including those that don’t make sense, can often make things more fun. I sometimes think that if people didn’t take games so seriously, they could use them as a chance to learn the mind of their opponent. In single player video games, there is usually no concept of losing. You can choose to retry as many times as you want, or give up entirely. The very fact that the end result of a game is irrelevant to anything else in life is exactly why I want to play it.
